Two On-Campus Events: One Is A Challenge, The Other Is Literally Fun and Games

There are two major events happening on campus within a week or so that have caught my interest for very different reasons.

On September 11th at 12:00 PM, Stony Brook will hold its annual 9/11 Commemoration event. The event consists mainly of a memorial service conducted at noon in the Alumni Memorial Grove. Considering the high level of emotion surrounding events like this, I’m interested in capturing the thoughts and feelings of those attending the service, although the gravity of it makes it a very intimidating event to cover. There’s a serious risk of offending the people who are attending the service and getting interviews out of these people may not be easy. It is nonetheless a compelling event and one worth covering.

On September 19th at 12:00 PM, Stony Brook will begin its four-day Wolfstock event as part of the school’s homecoming celebration. This event is obviously much more light-hearted and presents much less of a dilemma in covering it. Plans for Wolfstock include a pep rally, a carnival/fair, a student organizations showcase and the elections of Homecoming King and Queen. While these events are spread out over four days, they all present good opportunities to get interviews from students and student-athletes.
